Procedures In Vascular Angiography - Part 2
Module Description:
Audience: Radiologic Technologists interested in learning about conventional angiography.
Prerequisites: Procedures in Vascular Angiography - Part 1
Part 2 of a 2 part series introduces the major manifestations of various disease states to include aneurysmal disease, peripheral arterial disease, Raynaud's disease, and cerebrovascular insufficiency. Vascular anatomy will be reviewed, factors to determine the type of disease will be discussed, and signs and symptoms of various diseases will be utilized in documenting the precise location of the disease and in the understanding of the various types of treatment options. Technical aspects will be discussed to assist in utilizing the correct imaging for the disease state.
Learning Objectives
* Discuss the procedures and techniques for percutaneous catheterization.
* Review the anatomy of various vessels.
* Identify various techniques for patient positioning.
* Define the signs and symptoms of various vascular pathologies.
* Review the major risk factors associated with vascular pathologies.
* Discuss the various imaging techniques needed to identify certain disease states.
* Review the mechanism of peripheral vascular disease.
* Define cerebrovascular insufficiency.
* Identify the two major classifications of stroke.
* Review the collateral circulation to the brain.
* Examine the possible location of a stroke using the presenting symptoms.
* Discuss treatment options for various vascular pathologies.
* Identify clinical presentation of lower and upper extremity disease.

About the author:
Betty J. Ashdown is currently working as a Cardiovascular Clinical Education specialist for Philips Medical Systems. She has over 28 years experience in Cardiac and Vascular Angiography and was a former clinical instructor in both the angiography program and cardiovascular technology program Norfolk, Virginia. She also was instrumental in developing both a Special Vascular Imaging program and a Computerized Tomography Program at Tidewater Community College in Virginia Beach, Virginia. She was the instructor of these programs for many years. Ms. Ashdown formerly conducted weekend seminars in both fields at various cities across the country. She has vast knowledge and experience in these fields and holds several credentials to her name, including (CV), (CT), and RCIS. She is a member of the A.S.R.T. and the A.V.I.R. and past president of the local technologist society (TDSRT). She has several articles published in the Cath Lab Digest as well as assisted with other important projects for the A.S.R.T. and the A.R.R.T.
