Digital Subtraction Angiography
Module Description:
Audience: Radiologic Technologist interested in special procedures.
Prerequisites: None
The program is intended to explain the development of “special procedures” within diagnostic radiology and the advancements through the years. Serial angiographic filming will be discussed and manual subtraction techniques will be reviewed. The advantages and disadvantages of subtraction will be explained. The use of computers to obtain digital imaging will be reviewed as well as techniques to improve digital image quality. Various post processing techniques will be highlighted to describe the importance of using them for accurate disease diagnosis.

About the author:
Betty J. Ashdown is currently working as a Cardiovascular Clinical Education specialist for Philips Medical Systems. She has over 28 years experience in Cardiac and Vascular Angiography and was a former clinical instructor in both the angiography program and cardiovascular technology program Norfolk, Virginia. She also was instrumental in developing both a Special Vascular Imaging program and a Computerized Tomography Program at Tidewater Community College in Virginia Beach, Virginia. She was the instructor of these programs for many years. Ms. Ashdown formerly conducted weekend seminars in both fields at various cities across the country. She has vast knowledge and experience in these fields and holds several credentials to her name, including (CV), (CT), and RCIS. She is a member of the A.S.R.T. and the A.V.I.R. and past president of the local technologist society (TDSRT). She has several articles published in the Cath Lab Digest as well as assisted with other important projects for the A.S.R.T. and the A.R.R.T.
