Anatomy, Physiology, and Pathology Review using MRI - The Brain
Module Description:
Audience: MRI technologists or those interested in going into MRI.
Prerequisites: The participant should have some basic knowledge of MRI.
This course is a review that enables the student to understand the basic concepts of clinical anatomy and physiology of the central nervous system using medical imaging, and to better understand the brain including its main structures and functions. The student will be able to locate the major structures of the brain on a MR image, and have a basic knowledge of the most common pathological conditions affecting the brain. The course will help the student understand the role of MR paramagnetic contrast agents, day-to-day protocols for brain imaging along with other basic concepts related to Neurological MR imaging. Basic knowledge of MR and basic protocols is recommended.
Learning Objectives
* Describe basic clinical anatomy and physiology of the central nervous system using medical imaging
*Discuss the brain including its main structures and functions
* Locate the major structures of the brain on an MR image
* Discuss the most common pathological conditions affecting the brain
* Recognize the role of MR paramagnetic contrast agents used to image the brain
* Discuss typical MR protocols for the brain
* Recognize the main vessels of the head and neck on an MR image
* Describe common cerebrovascular anomalies

About the author:
Barbara Lebron is recognized as an expert resource for teaching clinical and technical concepts in MRI, CT, General Radiology, Ultrasound, and Vascular imaging. Barbara has worked for Philips Healthcare for 18 years; as a Clinical Sales Support Manager for CT/MRI and currently as an Online Course Developer for the Philips Learning Center. Her responsibilities include developing and updating courses for the Learning Center, working with subject matter experts and authors, and managing the continuing education process for the various accrediting organizations. Barbara is a graduate of Quinnipiac College in Hamden, Connecticut, is accredited by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists with an additional MR registry license, and is a member of the American Society of Radiologic Technologists.
