Module:
Anatomy, Physiology, and Pathology Review using MRI - The Spine
Module Description:
Audience: All medical professionals interested in learning about MRI in the spine.
Prerequisites: The participant should have some basic knowledge of MRI.
This course is a review that enables the student to understand the basic concepts of clinical anatomy and physiology of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine using medical imaging, and to better understand the spine including its main structures and functions. The student will be able to locate major anatomical structures on a MR image, and have a basic knowledge of the most common pathological conditions affecting the spine. The course will help the student understand the role of MR paramagnetic contrast agents used to image the spine, and be aware of typical MR protocols for the spine.
Learning Objectives
* Describe basic clinical anatomy and physiology of the spine using Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
* Discuss the spine including its main structures and functions
* Locate the major structures in the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine on an MR image
* Recognize the most common pathological conditions affecting the spine
* Define the role of MR paramagnetic contrast agents used to image the spine
* Describe some of the routine MR protocols for the spine
