Multicystic Dysplastic Kidney
Case Study Description:
Audience: All practitioners of ultrasound or anyone interested in learning about multicystic dysplastic kidney.
Prerequisites: A basic understanding of ultrasound
The purpose of this case is to illustrate the progression of multicystic dysplastic kidney (MCK), and to discuss the classifications of cystic renal disease in the fetus, sonographic findings of MCK, associated findings, differential diagnosis and prognosis. The information is presented in a case study format. By reviewing the medical history and the results from both prenatal and postnatal studies, the characteristics of this pathology will be examined.

Dolores Helen Pretorius, M.D., F.A.C.R., is a professor of Radiology practicing medicine since 1978. She is a graduate of Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. She has published over 150 articles since 1998 and pioneered research in the field of 3D/4D Ultrasound Imaging for the last 16 years. Currently Dr. Pretorius is Director of Imaging at the University of California, San Diego in the Fetal Diagnosis and Treatment Center and a professor in the Department of Radiology.
