Module Description: Module Description: This interactive learning module, the fifth in the CT Basics series, demonstrates the methods used to measure patient dose, increase patient safety and reduce occupational exposure in CT. With colorful images and easy-to-understand animations, the professionally narrated course engages participants in the learning process. This class includes review questions and is suited for technologists interested in adding CT to their professional skill set. After successful completion of all 10 modules, participants will receive diplomas from the ASRT recognizing their achievement.

Learning Objectives

• Describe and use methods to measure patient dose.
• Discuss the role of the computed tomography technologist in reducing radiation dose, including technical factor selection, positioning and shielding.
• Explain the basics of occupational exposure in computed tomography.
• Discuss special considerations for pediatric patients.
• Describe ethical considerations, including the overuse of CT, appropriate imaging of pediatric patients and how protocols can affect scanning.
• Use the basics of patient care to ensure patient safety, including protocols, venipuncture, contrast administration and informed consent.
• Explain preprocedure and postprocedure instructions.
• Demonstrate emergency procedures.
