SPECT/CT Image Guided Radiation Therapy for Prostate Cancer Clinical-Use Methods across Multiple Practice Settings:
Advances in molecular imaging and conformal radiation therapy have converged to enable more precise delivery of therapy to regions of known disease. The recent publication of long-term prostate cancer outcome data, with dose escalation targeting discrete areas of tumor identified with SPECT/CT, demonstrates advantages in biochemical disease free survival and lower rates of morbidity1-7. Radiation Oncologist Rodney J. Ellis, a pioneer in conformal therapy outcome research using PSMA directed Capromab Pendetide, presents an update on image guided radiation therapy (IGRT) using SPECT/CT. This evidence-based educational lecture provides a how-to review and applications of SPECT/CT tumor targeting techniques for use in brachytherapy, intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) and other conformal therapies for prostate cancer; as a case example of the new applications of molecular imaging in radiation oncology.
