Module: Smell It Like It Is: Addressing Oral Malodor

Module Description: Oral malodor, also known as halitosis, is a condition that has been recognized since ancient times. It’s a valid concern affecting millions of individuals. Americans spend over 2 billion dollars annually for fresher breath. Dental professionals are placed in the ideal position to offer solutions for an embarrassing problem.

This course is designed to assist the dental professional in addressing oral malodor. In addition, it will empower the clinician to make courageous conversations about an uncomfortable topic with their patients.

Module Objectives:
1. Describe the three classifications of oral malodor
2. Identify sources in the production of oral malodor
3. Describe various solutions for the prevention and treatment of oral malodor

Philips Oral Healthcare is designated as an Approved PACE Program Provider by the Academy of General Dentistry. The formal continuing dental education programs of this program provider are accepted by AGD for Fellowship/Mastership and membership maintenance credit. Tracey is a graduate of the University of Alabama School of Dentistry with a Bachelor’s of Science in Dental Hygiene.

She is a member of the American Dental Education Association, American Dental Hygienists’ Association and American Academy for Oral Systemic Health. Having served several leadership positions including President of the Florida Dental Hygiene Association, she is most noted for her dedicated service as FDHA Event Planner and recently awarded the 2014 FDHA Distinguished Service Award.

Tracey manages the South region for Philips and presents a variety of educational programs nationwide. With over 20 years of clinical experience, she continues to practice dental hygiene part-time in Central Florida.
Tracey enjoys photography, power yoga, “garden-to-the-table” cooking and coordinating family celebrations. She resides with her family in Orlando.

Samantha A. Meltzer BSDH, MDH

Samantha received her Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale and a Master of Dental Hygiene in Business Management from University of Minnesota. Her career began with a leading dental practice in Chicago where she practiced full-time dental hygiene. In addition to clinical practice, Samantha has presented a variety of educational seminars regarding the oral systemic link.

Samantha manages the Midwest territory for Philips Oral Healthcare and is a member of the American Dental Education Association and American Dental Hygienists’ Association.

During her spare time she enjoys volunteering at the humane society, clinical practice and outdoor activities. Her mantra is life-long learning and growing. She currently resides in St. Joseph, Michigan

As of April 1, 2017, the Philips Online Learning Center will no longer offer Online Education Accounts for the advance purchase of bulk continuing education units (CEUs).  We will, however, continue to offer CEUs with the purchase of individual courses.

If you have an Online Learning Account purchased prior to April 1st with a balance of CEUs remaining, you may continue to use the account to obtain continuing education from the Philips Online Learning Center.
